About Mr. Fua

I would like to share a  little bit about myself so that you know me as a person.

I was born on September 20, 1963. So, that makes me how old? I'll let you do the math! I was born on the island of Guam in the village (town) of Tamuning. I'll let you find out where that is as well. My nationality is Filipino-Chinese-Spanish. Some of my former students have said that I kind of look like Jackie Chan or Jet Li, sort of! I'll let you be the judge.  Here's a map to show you where the island of Guam is located and pictures to show you what it looks like.

My parents decided to move our family from Guam to Denver, Colorado in 1975. Since then, I've lived here in Denver, for the most part.

I was in the 7th grade when we moved here.  I went to Laredo Middle School, which is part of the Cherry Creek School District.  And it was in the 7th grade that I became interested in Math and Technology--all because of my Math teacher, Mr. Matsunaga.

After middle school, I went to Smoky Hill High School.  I thought that my high school years were the best ever.  I had a lot of great classes and made a lot of friends.  I joined clubs and sports and was even the school's copy boy.

I graduated from high school in 1981 and went to college the next year.  I applied to the University of Colorado in Boulder and studied Math.  I was also in training to become an officer in the Air Force.  College was challenging but I made it through and graduated in 1985.  I also became an officer in the Air Force and moved to Los Angeles, California.  That's where I was stationed.

I was lucky because I had the best job in the Air Force.  My responsibility was to design communication and spy satellites and launch them from the Space Shuttle.  No, I wasn't an astronaut.  I wish.  But, after four years, I decided to move back to Colorado.  I missed my family and home.

It wasn't until 2000 that I decided to become a teacher.  I started out teaching 6th grade Math at Lake Middle School.  After two years of teaching Math, I started teaching Technology.  And, now, I'm back to teaching Math but at the 7th grade level.

I currently live just a few blocks from Lake Middle School, putting me close to where students live. Sometimes, I don't mind students dropping by my house to visit. But, students have to know when to be respectful of my privacy.

I live with a roommate, my Rottweiler Zeus, and four cats. We all live in a beautiful Victorian home that was built in 1888. It has a huge yard, which is great because I like to garden. We also think our house has a ghost in it. I'll tell that story some other time. Just ask me about it later...
