Lesson 8:  PowerPoint as a Web Page

Objective(s):  Now that you've learned how to create Hyperlinks and use Action Buttons, you can actually turn your presentation into a Web Page.

In this final Lesson in Advance PowerPoint, you will be using many of the lessons you've learned in this unit.  In this lesson, you will learn how to create a PowerPoint file and save it as a web page.  This lesson will become important later in this class as there will be a whole Lesson Unit dedicated to Web Design.  So pay attention to what you will be learning.

(Action1):  When you think of a web page, what things do you see on the page? Make a list of these things that you recall seeing on a web page.  Make the list using MS Word.  This is going to be important because what you list down will probably show up on your very own web page.

Creating a Web Page

Most web pages that you have seen all have information.  But, they also have a menu that takes you to other pages within that website.  Believe it or not, there is nothing new here to learn.  You already know how to create hyperlinks and action buttons.  Right?

(Action2):  Open up MS PowerPoint to a new blank slide.  Create 5 sample slides (no need to have any details--just lots of blah, blah, blahs).  On the first page, create the following hyperlinks:

Home

Page 2

Page 3

Page 4

Page 5

Make sure you hyperlink these to the appropriate page.  When you have completed the links, copy the links to each slide so that they all appear in the same position of each slide.   See figure below.

Links on PowerPoint

Notice how the links are on each of the five slides to the left.  If you do a "Edit", "Copy" and "Paste" on each slide, the links will automatically be placed in the same spot as the links in the other slides.  Simple!

Now, click on "File", "Save as Web Page".  Congratulations!  You created your first web page.  You can add action buttons if you like, but it's not necessary since you have hyperlinks.  Please remember these simple steps to creating web pages.

In the Final Project of this Lesson Unit on Advance PowerPoint, you will be creating slide presentations and turning them into web pages.
