OUR RESPONSIBITLIES AS A LAKE FAMILY
1. Entering Class: Wait in the hallway in front of class. When the bell rings, I will let you in the class once EVERYONE is calm. When you enter, quickly and quietly take your seat.
2. Preparedness: There’s not much you need for this class. Everything is done and saved to your computer. Paper and a writing utensil are not required. We're going GREEN!
3. 10 Minute Rule: Every so often I will task the class to work on Current International News so that you know and understand what is going on around the world. This will help understand our world and how you fit in.
4. Launch/Explore/Summarize: This is how our class is conducted daily. The agenda for the day will be up on the big screen or showing on your computer. I will give you specific instructions for the day and you begin your work immediately after instructions. Towards the end, we will discuss what you have learned for the day.
5. Tardies / Absences: If you are tardy, you must have a signed Student Planner. If you do not have a signed Student Planner, you will lose one of your allowed 2 passes for the day. No EXCEPTIONS! If you are absent, it is your responsibility to have your parents contact the main office notifying them of your absence. It will also be your responsibility to discuss with your teachers to make up work that you have missed.
6. Discipline: I’m here to help you develop self-discipline. That way, you can become more successful in class, in school, in high school, in college and beyond. If you feel you can’t handle it, let’s talk about it and see what we can do to help you.
7. Grading: I will be grading the IB way—meaning Rubrics! However, when it comes time for report cards, I will grade the DPS way. This will be discussed in greater detail including the Grading Rubrics further on down the page.
Lab Rules
| Rule |
Reason |
| 1. No food, drink, candy, including chewing gum. |
Can damage computer and equipment. Expensive to replace. |
| 2. No running or playing in the lab. |
Can damage computer/equipment and hurt yourself or others. |
| 3. Stay focused and work hard. |
So long as you try your hardest, you will never fail this class. You will be able to finish your work on time and receive a much better grade than if you did nothing in class. |
| 4. Observe other rules and procedures in the lab. |
To avoid disciplinary action, it is important that you follow all lab rules and procedures. |
| Golden Rule: Respect everyone and everything and they will respect you in return. |
Lab Procedures
Lab Procedures are different than Lab Rules. Rules tell you what you can and can't do. However, Procedures tell you how and when to do things. Make sense? When you know how and when to do things, I guarantee you will never be lost in this class.
| Upon Entering the Lab |
| |
1. Before entering the Tech Classroom, line up in the hallway until I invite you into the classroom. While lined up, this would be a good time to calm yourself before entering. |
| |
2. Quickly and quietly walk in and take your seat. Do not touch your computer. Please wait for instructions. |
| |
3. In the first 10-15 minutes of class, you will receive instructions on the day's activities. Begin work when told to do so. |
| Upon Exiting the Lab |
| |
1. Five minutes before class is over, we will discuss what you have learned for the day. |
| |
2. You will then be instructed to clean your workstation. Make sure there is no trash in and around your workstation. If so, pick it up and throw in the trash can on your way out. |
| |
3. Your keyboard and mouse will be placed on top of the computer. |
| |
4. You will be instructed to stand up, push in your chair and stand by your chair. I will be the one to dismiss you, not the bell! I will dismiss you by rows. |
Internet Use Agreement
| Rules |
Reason |
| 1. Appropriate websites allowed. |
The opposite is just cause for immediate disciplinary action, up to and including suspension. Three disciplinary actions and your right to use a computer anywhere in the school will not be permitted for a specified duration. |
| 2. Educational websites only. |
Non-educational websites such as online games (educaitonal games excepted), music videos, lyrics and pictures are considered inappropriate. These computers were bought by taxpayers and they would be upset if we are using their money for non-educational purposes. |
| 3. Student-safe email systems such as Gaggle and other parent-approved online applications are permitted. |
Use of personal email, chatrooms, instant messages, blogs are not permitted. In addition, the use of cell phones, iPods, MP3 players, gaming electronics and other such devices are forbidden and will be confiscated for parent pick-up. |
